Why Correct Mowing Height Matters More Than You Think
Most lawn damage in Corvallis, OR is caused not by drought, disease, or insects but by improper mowing. Cutting grass too short, a practice known as scalping, removes the green leaf tissue the plant uses for photosynthesis, weakens the root system, and leaves the soil exposed to weed germination and moisture loss. Conversely, allowing grass to grow too tall before mowing creates thick thatch accumulation, reduces air circulation at the soil surface, and creates favorable conditions for fungal disease development. Kelly Landscaping technicians are trained to identify your grass species and cut at the height that promotes root depth and leaf density simultaneously.
Our mowing crews in Corvallis, OR use commercial-grade zero-turn mowers and walk-behind units calibrated and serviced before every work week. We sharpen blades on a regular rotation because dull blades tear grass rather than cut it cleanly, leaving ragged edges that brown and invite disease entry points. We also adjust cutting height seasonally, raising the mow height during summer stress periods to protect the root zone from heat and reducing it in spring and fall when active growth allows denser cutting without scalp risk.
Beyond the cut itself, our mowing service includes professional edging along every bed border, sidewalk, driveway, and property edge using commercial-grade stick edgers. Clean, defined edges dramatically improve the visual presentation of any lawn and take years off the apparent age of an established property. After mowing and edging are complete, our crews blow all clippings, trimmings, and debris from hard surfaces including driveways, patios, and sidewalks before leaving your property.
